Updates from Around the County: 50 Orgs Support Increased Funding for Walking and Biking, Garcetti Appoints Bike and Ped-Friendly LADOT General Manager
On July 16th at 2:30 p.m., you are invited to join us as we show broad support for increasing funding for walking and bicycling at the Metro board planning & programming committee. If you can make it, please email eric@la-bike.org. Los Angeles: Last week Mayor Eric Garcetti nominated Seleta Reyolds as the new General Manager of LADOT. Appointing a bike and ped- friendly GM was one of our asks to Mayor Garcetti. As the head of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's "Livable Streets" office, Reynolds has a long record of bicycle and pedestrian initiatives we hope she brings with her to LA, including: - Vision Zero - A bicyclist or pedestrian is killed every three days in LA. Reynolds was a key part of the team implementing Vision Zero in San Francisco, which is a comprehensive approach to reducing traffic fatalities to zero by 2024.
- Enhanced School Zone Safety - Seleta implemented 15 mph school zone speed limits around every public school in San Francisco, putting the safety of children walking and biking to school as the first priority.
- Innovative Bikeway Design - Reynolds oversaw the implementation of many of San Francisco's complete streets projects, including protected bikeways and other innovative designs not yet built here in LA.
We commend Mayor Garcetti's bold choice and welcome Seleta Reynolds to Los Angeles!

What's Ringing Our Bike Bells: Videos from the L.A. River Ride
| Ground Sell TV: The 14th Annual Los Angeles River Ride |
We noticed that this year's River Ride was heavy on video camera. From more media outlets covering the event to more GoPro cameras on the path, we know that this River Ride was better-documented than anyone before. Check out some videos we've found: - Ground Swell TV has several interviews at the Autry, including ones with our Executive Director Jen Klausner, River Ride Director JJ Hoffman, Grand Marshal Damian Kevitt, former L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, and Taiwan Tourism Bureau's Trust Lin.
- River Ride Fundraiser Zachary Rynew not only raised $900 for LACBC in a short span on time, but he shot this video of his Century Ride.
- Bonus: On the day before each River Ride, our Education Director Colin Bogarts and a team of volunteers mark the route for rides. Check out veteran volunteer Will Campbell's timelapse from Saturday.
