LAUSD Calls on Metro to Increase Funding for Walking and Biking

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Unified School District Board adopted a resolution supporting our efforts to increase funding for active transportation in Metro's Short Range Transportation Plan. LAUSD cited the fact that an overwhelming number of their 650,000 students walk, bike and take transit to get to school and travel in their communities, and in the wake of budget cuts to school bus services, more and more students rely on active transportation. Metro's draft plan would allocate only 0.6% of its funding over the next 10 years to walking and biking, shortchanging students' mobility needs. We applaud LAUSD's renewed attention to safe routes to school and value the district's input in regional transportation policy. For more information, see the Safe Routes to School National Partnership's blog post. Get involved with SRTS's efforts here.
