Dear Kevin, If dressing wacky, riding bikes, listening to bands, drinking beer AND supporting bike advocacy are things you like, then don’t miss the most FUN fundraiser around. Tour de Fat is coming back to town this Saturday! Here are the details you need to know to plan out your bike-tastic day. Bike Parade at 11AM (Registration starts at 10AM) Group Ride to Tour de Fat! Afternoon Ballyhoo from 12-5PM A Free Beer for all New and Renewing Members! Volunteer for the Big Event We're Hiring: Executive DirectorLast month, Leah Shahum, our Executive Director, wrote a special Biker Bulletin sharing with our members that after 17 years with the organization she will be stepping down at the end of the year to pursue new adventures, including international research into Vision Zero. Thanks to you, the SF Bicycle Coalition is in terrific shape, and the search has begun for our next leader. We are looking for a strong, passionate leader who can take our successful organization to the next level. The ideal person is a tenacious advocate, an effective leader and a creative problem solver with a passion for our mission and an innate ability to connect personally with our diverse and active membership base. See the full job description here, and share it widely. We're also hiring fall interns for Bicycle Advocacy, Safe Routes to School, Membership and more. Check out the position descriptions and send them along to the up-and-coming bicycle advocates in your life (or apply yourself!).
In addition to the Supervisor races this year, there are three important transportation-related ballot measures the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition will be taking a stance on this year. Proposition A, Proposition B and Proposition L present stark contrasts for our city’s future, and the November elections will give voters a chance to weigh in on whether they want to move our transportation system forwards or backwards. In order to keep our city rolling forward, the SF Bicycle Coalition is proud to endorse a Yes on A, Yes on B and staunch No on L! Read more about the measures and take action here. Bay Trail at Battery East is Open! One of the most popular destinations now has even better access for bikes. Thanks to the National Park Service and Parks Conservancy, the final piece of the Bay Trail at Battery East opened last week. While the beautiful path was completed a couple years ago to connect Crissy Field to Golden Gate Bridge, the approach onto the bridge continued to be closed for further improvements. Now bicycles can get onto both the eastern and western paths directly to make your ride up to Marin County better than ever. Learn more about the project at the Parks Conservancy site here. Welcome Libby, Our New Volunteer Coordinator We’re thrilled to welcome Libby Nachman to the staff as our new Volunteer Coordinator! Prior to joining the staff, Libby served as a Bicycle Advocacy intern here, as well as an intern in Communications at SPUR. She comes to San Francisco from the Midwest by way of South America, where she volunteered on various sustainability-oriented projects and strengthened her now-fluent Spanish-speaking skills. Back in Minneapolis, Libby led teams of volunteers in Carleton College’s Kids for Conservation program and worked as an on-campus Sustainability Assistant. She’s very excited to join our Program Director Margaret in working with our amazing volunteer community. In addition to exploring new bike routes around San Francisco, Libby also loves experimenting in the kitchen and participating in synchronized swimming. Say hi at libby@sfbike.org!
