California State Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins will be the keynote speaker and highlight this year's Annual SCANPH Conference Luncheon.
As Speaker of the State Assembly and one of the most influential legislators in California, Speaker Atkins has led an enormously productive year in the legislature for affordable housing.
Through her leadership, hard work, and commitment to fund affordable homes through cap and trade fees, create state tax credits for housing preservation and innovation, and expand funding for homelessness prevention and veteran housing - Speaker Atkins has profoundly reshaped the politics of California and expanded opportunity for all. Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins was first elected to the Assembly in 2010, and in 2014, during her second term, her colleagues unanimously elected her as the 69th Speaker of the Assembly. Speaker Atkins is a coalition-builder who believes government policies can improve people's lives. She is a leading voice for affordable housing, a powerful advocate for women, and champion for veterans and homeless people.
Speaker Atkins was born in Virginia. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Emory & Henry College, and completed the senior executive program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She lives in the South Park/Golden Hill community of San Diego with her spouse Jennifer LeSar and their dogs, Haley and Joey.
