Take Action Here Even as we honor the work of BIKES ONboard, led by Dr. Shirley Johnson’s fervor for bikes and transit, we continue to see bikes getting “bumped” off Caltrain every single day. What’s a “bump?” A “bump” is a term for when a passenger is denied boarding due to insufficient onboard bicycle capacity. Read about what to do if you’re bumped, get involved in our Caltrain campaign and check out the bump graph for this year. Ultimate Bike Shop Challenge All Month Long

Designers and Architects: Join us for a Bike Parking Class
We've partnered with the American Institute of Architects, San Francisco Chapter and Saris Parking for a bike parking course on Thursday, July 17 to acquaint architects and designers with best practices for designing indoor and outdoor bike parking. The course addresses a variety of solutions to the common challenges of creating functional and efficient bike parking, while offering a fluency in bike parking products, an understanding of cyclists’ needs, instruction on utilizing bike parking to optimize LEED points, and suggestions for integrating sound bike parking into overall building design. SF Bicycle Coalition members get a discounted $10 rate for the class. RSVP today. Last Chance to Weigh in on the Marina Path Project
The City has scheduled the final community meeting for the Bay Trail path along Marina Boulevard to July 22. They will be presenting their final recommended design for the bicycle and pedestrian path, a popular and beautiful location along our waterfront between Fort Mason and Crissy Field. This is the time to make sure the final design will relocate the parking to a convenient location for visitors and boat owners to create a beautiful bicycle and pedestrian path. Your support is critical, so we hope you can either attend the meeting or write a letter of support. For more information, read our blog here.

Even World Champion Cyclists Need Better Bikeways Evelyn Stevens is a world champion and Olympic cyclist. Like thousands of other local road bikers, she’s also a member of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. We sat down with her to hear more about what she thinks about biking in San Francisco, how biking in our city compares to New York City riding and why supporting bicycle advocacy and 8 to 80 bikeways is important — even if you’re a pro rider. Here’s what she has to say.
Statewide Action: Protected Bikeways Act The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and the California Bicycle Coalition's network of affiliates are working together to make riding a bike better in California. Last month, due to some quick statewide organizing and activism, Assemblymember Phil Ting's Protected Bikeways Act (AB 1193) unanimously passed the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee. This is an important step toward to making it easier for every community in to build more bikeways that are attractive for everyone from ages 8 to 80.
If you support the California Bicycle Coalition's work to make Protected Bikeways readily available throughout California sign your support here.
