LACBC Calls on L.A. County Sheriff's Department to Stop Improper CVC21202 Citations for Riding Legally

LACBC takes seriously our duty to defend bicyclists' rights to the road. Today, we called on the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to stop improperly ticketing bicyclists who are legally controlling the lane and establish a Bicycle Task Force responsible for improving deputy training. Read our letter.

If you have been improperly pulled over and/or cited for CVC 21202, please get in touch with planning & policy director Eric Bruins at eric@la-bike.org.

View our full letter on the LACBC website.

Not "Regionally Significant"? Join LACBC at Metro on Wednesday to Ask for More Funding for Walking and Biking

Join LACBC at Metro on July 16th to ask for more funding for walking and biking. For over two years, LACBC has worked alongside the Safe Routes to School National Partnership to call attention to the critical lack of funding for walking and biking in Los Angeles County. Despite pedestrians and bicyclists making up 19% of all trips and 39% of roadway fatalities in LA County, less than 1% of transportation funding is spent on these two modes.

Update: Metro staff released their response to our comment letter on the $88-billion short range transportation plan and called walking and biking not "regionally significant." Next week we're aiming to show that all of L.A. County supports greater investment in walking and biking.

WEcycle REcycle!

LACBC and Santa Monica Spoke member Rachel Horn gives us a peek of WEcycle REcycle, an environmental education program that that illuminates the mysterious process of municipal solid waste management and utilizes bikes to do so.

In this video, Rachel takes a local middle school to bike party to the recycle facility in the hopes of connecting actions to municipal infrastructure; seeing the people, energy, and resources essential to the process, and begining to think critically about the full impact of our stuff.
