Sarah Walker wins American Academy of Arts Jacob Lawrence Award

The gallery congratulates Sarah Walker who has been chosen as winner of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Jacob Lawrence Award. The prize of 10,000 dollars was inaugurated last year. The work selected was Mount Meru (2012) and will be on view at the 2014 Invitational Exhibition of Visual Arts at the American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York, March 6 – April 12, 2014 and then in the Academy's Ceremonial Exhibition which runs from May 21 to June 21, 2014.

Sarah Walker received her BFA from California College of the Arts and an MFA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Walker is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, Neuberger Museum, DeCordova Museum, and Weatherspoon Art Museum. She is a 2011 Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant recipient, and has been featured in publications such as Art in America, Art News, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Huffington Post. Walker lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her fifth one-person show with Gregory Lind is planned for 2015.
