Dear Kevin, THIS WEEK:
NEWS & UPDATES Rally for Vision Zero Today at Noon!
Thanks to more than 100 members who showed up last week for a standing-room-only Police Commission/Board of Supervisors’ hearing. Thanks to you, the Police Chief committed to Vision Zero and pledged actions to move the department to full, fair treatment of people biking and walking and safer streets. Read more about what the Chief calls “a seismic shift in poilcy” here. Meanwhile, Mayor Lee shared his support for Vision Zero in last week’s State of the City address — now we need to see him commit to specific actions and resources beyond a weak call to “Be Nice”. Now, all eyes are on Ed Reiskin, head of the SF Municipal Transportation Agency, who acknowledged last week that these traffic deaths and severe injuries are preventable. We’ll be speaking up at the MTA Board meeting — after the rally, at 1pm at City Hall — and urging them to prevent more mayhem by re-designing the most dangerous locations, most of which are in SOMA & Tenderloin. Join us in saying “Enough is Enough!” Yo! Free Love on Wheels Entry & Raffle
Love on Wheels We'll have an event ticket with your name at the door when you join or renew your membership online. You don't have to be present to win, but you do have to be present to dance! SF Bicycle Coalition members and business supporters are invited to submit event ideas to celebrate this momentous bike milestone. Deadline is January 31st: Submit Your Event. Final Wiggle Open House on Wednesday A calmer Scott Street is finally on its way, but it needs your voice of support. As part of the Wiggle Neighborhood Greenway, the City has proposed a southbound traffic diverter on Scott Street at Fell Street. The diversion will reduce auto traffic but still allow for bicycles to continue comfortably onto the Wiggle. The plan also includes raised crosswalks to elevate pedestrians crossing the street along with other traffic-calming measures. Come see the designs and support the City’s bold move to bring traffic diverters to San Francisco. The final open house will be on Wednesday, January 22 at the Electrical Workers Union Hall (55 Fillmore Street). With the open house format, you are welcome to stop by anytime between 5PM and 7:30PM to make sure the City doesn’t back down on this important project. Support More Pilots on Market Street
Expanded restrictions are already part of the Better Market Street plan, and are an easy and cost-effective way to improve Muni speeds and bike and pedestrian safety. Show your support by sending a letter to the SFMTA Board and Supervisors Chiu and Kim calling for a safer Market Street! To get involved in future Market Street meetings, events, and hearings, email Paolo at paolo@sfbike.org. MEMBERS ONLY
