First off, I want to thank you all for coming out to the opening reception for Somewhere in the Fold, this past Thursday. We didn't expect such a turnout in the rain! For those of you who couldn't make it, gallery hours are from 12 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday.

On to the new:

This Thursday, come rain or shine, Ian Dolton-Thornton from Publication Studio Bay Area will be there taking orders and making beautiful publications from the PS Catalog, directly in front of you, from 12 to 5 pm. This will be happening every Thursday for the next month as part of the exhibition.

A little bit about them:

Publication Studio prints and binds books on demand, creating original work with artists and writers we admire. We use any means possible to help writers and artists reach a public: physical books; a digital commons (where anyone can read and annotate our books for free); eBooks; and wild social events with our writers and artists in many cities. We want to attend to the social life of the book. Publication Studio is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense—not just the production of books, but the production of a public. This public, which is more than a market, is created through physical production, digital circulation, and social gathering. Together, these construct a space of conversation, a public and shared space that we hope creates the most direct relationship between reader and author.

From 7 to 9 pm, we will be hosting Episteme : A book launch and performance by John Davis and Collin McKelvey. This collaborative book project interprets workplace interiors within The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as an institutional environment marked with unique imprints of human activity. As the museum nears its expansion and complete physical transformation, all traces of habitation and day-to-day occupation will be obliterated. As such, the project aims to capture those traces through poetic response, highlighting fragments of workspace environments, human labor and the passage of time.

Episteme is a perfect bound full color book with a 7" vinyl record of processed phonography. Published by Little Paper Planes of Oakland, CA.

In addition to the book / record being available, John Davis and Collin McKelvey have prepared a performance in spirit with the project. Utilizing tape loops of various filed recordings along with modular synthesizer and live video synthesis, Davis and McKelvey will create a textured and immersive sound environment.
