Smoother Streets Ahead?
Believe it or not, there's still a lot of opposition to bicycle improvement projects. Many people who don't bike think that the state of our streets are just fine as they are. Do you think Market Street is fine as it is? How's the pavement quality on your daily commute? Would you bike with your child on Masonic? As someone who rides a bike in San Francisco, you know that our streets aren't fine as they are -- and your SF Bicycle Coalition is working to change that.
Thanks in part to the $248 million streets bond we helped get passed last year, more money is going to our streets than ever before. Your San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is working nonstop to make sure that money goes toward smoother pavement and safe, protected bikeways on the streets that matter to you most. And we need your help to do it.
With your help, we will have the resources to do this round-the-clock advocacy to get smoother pavement and protected bikeways across the city. Now is our time to dramatically transform our streets. A special donation today will ensure you're riding on smoother, safer streets in the days to come.
One More Week to Bike the Vote
It's time to Bike the Vote! Election day is November 6th, and the voters will select San Francisco's Supervisors and BART Board -- critical decisions in so many ways for the future of everyday bicycling in SF. The SF Bicycle Coalition will be making an endorsement in the Supervisor Districts (odd numbers are up this election) and two BART Board seats.
We're calling on you -- and all of our members -- to help us determine who should receive our endorsement. Head over to sfbike.org/vote to vote and read the candidates' responses to our questionnaire on bicycling issues, and then let us know who you think should receive the SF Bicycle Coalition's endorsement. Current members can log in and cast your vote for the candidates you think would be the best. Your voice is essential in guiding our decision, so please weigh in and let us know who you think should receive our endorsement.

Sunday Streets: Just Two Left This Year
Thousands of San Franciscans enjoyed walking, biking, and healthy activities this past Sunday in the historic Chinatown neighborhood. Grant Avenue, the city's oldest street and one of the most ideal streets to stroll, was the heart of the Sunday Streets route.
This past Sunday marked the beginning of the Sunday Streets season countdown. There are just two more events this year, but it's not too late to join the fun. Here are a few ways you can support Sunday Streets:
- Be a Sunday Streets Superhero in the Western Addition: Volunteers get a free Sunday Streets t-shirt and lunch. Sign-up now to volunteer for Sunday Streets in the Western Addition on September 9th! We are proud that the Sunday Streets Volunteer Program is managed by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.
- Be a Bicycle Ambassador, or Get the Next Generation Rolling: Spend some time at one of the most fun spots at Sunday Streets -- the SF Bicycle Coalition tent. Email Trafton to sign up as a Bicycle Ambassador or email Grace to help little ones learn to ride at Freedom from Training Wheels.
- Volunteer Appreciation Party: TONIGHT! Help us say "Thank you!" at our Sunday Streets Volunteer Appreciation Party tonight from 7-9pm. We hope you will join us to say thanks and raise a glass to our wonderful volunteers who make it all happen. RSVP here.
Tour de Fat Less Than a Month Away
The beer's been ordered, the permits secured and the bands are tuning their instruments. Tour de Fat is less than one month away! Will you be joining us at this year's ballyhoo of bikes and beer on Saturday, September 22nd. We hope so!
There's fun to be had and some work to be done to make this annual bike-taculous event a success -- volunteering at the event pouring beer, sharing the SF Bicycle Coalition love under our big orange tent, and valet bike parking. But, wait! There's pre-event stuff too that needs to happen. The most important thing we can do is spread the word about the event. Email Trafton if you're interested in delivering Tour de Fat posters around your neighborhood.
Have you been thinking about ditching your car? Do it for the Tour de Fat and win $2,250 to create the bicycle ride of your dreams! One lucky winner (it could be you!) will become the center of the show as he or she gets up on stage, hands over their car keys, and pledges to live one year car-free. How do you enter to win? JFK Drive Survey Ride on September 10th
The SF Bicycle Coalition invites our members on a survey bike ride of JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park. The city's first parking-protected bikeway, which aims to make biking easier and safer for the growing number of people who are biking and want to bike more, has now been in the ground for three months, and is ripe for analysis. While the changes on JFK Drive settle in, the SF Bicycle Coalition wants to get your direct feedback on what you like and what needs to be improved. This ride will meet at Fell and Masonic at 6pm on September 10th and end at JFK Drive at Transverse Drive at 7pm. All members are encouraged to join. Show Your Support for Masonic Improvements
After years of community planning and outreach, design, and environmental review, the "Boulevard Proposal" for Masonic Avenue between Fell Street and Geary Boulevard is up for the final decision at the SFMTA Board of Directors on September 18th. Have you taken the time to share your story on why Masonic Avenue needs to be fixed? Take action and send in a support letter today - visit sfbike.org/masonic to find out how.

Relive your college days and spread the word of bicycling in San Francisco to the next generation of bicycle commuters and Coalition members - Service Station, Masonic - Fell & Masonic St. - Thurs., Sept. 6th, 5:00-7:00pm.
The first of our September outreach focuses on the Masonic St campaign. The new boulevard design goes to the MTA Board on Sept. 18th. Let's rally some support ASAP. - Sunday Streets, Western Addition - Alamo Square (specific location TDB) - Sun., Sept. 9th, 10:30am-1:45pm and 1:15-4:30pm.
Only two events left in the 2012 season, so now is the time to experience the buzz that is Sunday Streets.

Video: The Biggest, Baddest Bike-Share in the World
New bike share programs are being launched in cities across the country. Minneapolis, Denver and Washington D.C. already have their programs in full swing. Here in San Francisco, details are being hashed out for the regional bike share. But in Hangzhou, China, they have bike share mastered! Check out this amazing Streetfilm about the 50,000 bikes (with plans to grow to 175,000!) that Hangzhou launched, and how it's helping people of all ages complete that last mile of their commute.

Bike to School Practice: On Road with Your Family Part 3
12:00-2:30pm| The Panhandle Park, West of Masonic
Learn how to ride to school with your children with our on-road course. Our instructors will teach you and your children how to prepare and ride to school, including practice on a car-free space and on regular city streets with biking facilities. Parents with children of all ages are welcome, including children riding independently. All people under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring your own bikes and helmets.
