Activist Geographies at the AAG Annual Meeting in Los Angeles


Los Angeles is a particularly appropriate place for "Activist Geographies: Struggles for Social and Environmental Justice," an emerging theme of the AAG Annual Meeting, because LA is known as a place where social and activist movements have undertaken struggles around issues such as immigration, borders, transportation, and environmental justice. The conference will be held April 9-13, 2013. Read the Call for Papers and submit an abstract by Oct. 24 to organize a session. Learn more. 

Propose a Field Trip or Workshop for the AAG Annual Meeting

 

Field trips and workshops offer Annual Meeting attendees unique opportunities to interact with colleagues with similar interests while learning about the rich cultural and physical geography of Los Angeles and Southern California. The AAG invites anyone attending the upcoming conference in April to organize informative field trips in and around the L.A. area. Field trip proposals are due Nov. 1. Learn more. 

Emerging Themes 


Each year, the AAG identifies a few themes for its Annual Meeting to help focus discussion and provide a fresh and engaging structure to the conference program. Attendees are also invited to develop themes relevant to the meeting's location or influenced by political and intellectual trends within the discipline. Current themes include:

About the AAG Annual Meeting

 

The weeklong conference is expected to host more than 8,000 geographers from around the world and feature over 4,000 presentations, posters, workshops, and field trips by leading scholars and researchers. The AAG Annual Meeting is an interdisciplinary forum open to anyone with an interest in geography and related disciplines.
