Bike Updates from Around the County: Glendale Bike Plan Passes City Council Glendale: Glendale City Council approved the final draft of the Bike Transportation Plan by a vote of 4-1 this past Tuesday evening! The BTP, the first since 1996, is the product of several years of work by community members and city staff to create an extensive plan detailing bicycle infrastructure improvements in the City of Glendale. The plan calls for roughly $5.8 million in bicycle improvements, and Glendale officials appeared committed to implement these improvements as soon as possible. Local chapter Walk Bike Glendale encourages you to send a thank-you email to City Council at citycouncil@ci.glendale.ca.us. Read more about it at the Glendale News Press. Alhambra: The City of Alhambra is developing its Bicycle Master Plan and is looking for input. The survey can be accessed at surveymonkey.com/s/AlhambraBMP and will be open through Monday, September 3rd. Malibu: The City of Malibu and SCAG are currently conducting a safety study along PCH that will examine current road conditions and determine accident patterns based on roadway geometry, adjacent land-uses, and/or other factors that may be unique to Malibu. Please plan to attend one of the upcoming public meetings, all to be held at City Hall from 6-8 PM: September 13, 20, 27 and October 4. Visit malibucity.org for more details. State Bill Roundup: 3-Foot Passing Bill & Bike Lane CEQA-Exemption Bill Head to Governor's Desk, LA River Access Bill Signed into Law
State Assembly Passes SB 1464, "Give Me 3" Bill Heads to Governor Brown's Desk for Approval Senate Bill 1464, the 3-foot passing bill, was passed by the California State Assembly this Monday by a vote of 50-16.
SB 1464 will require drivers to give bicyclists at least three feet of clearance when overtaking them from behind in the same lane. By giving drivers a clear, measurable, objective standard for how to pass bicyclists safely, Senate Bill 1464 will help prevent the leading cause of bicyclist fatalities. And by making our roads safer, SB 1464 will help more would-be bicyclists confidently choose to ride a bike as everyday transportation. The bill now heads to Governor Jerry Brown's desk for approval. We'll give you updates on what you can do to voice your support for this bill. In the meantime, considering donating to the California Bicycle Coalition's Give Me 3 Campaign, and you could go on a bike ride with Gary Fisher! Bill to Streamline Bike Lane Process Heads to Governor Brown's Desk
AB 2245, which would exempt hundreds of miles of proposed bikeways from the California Environmental Quality Act and time-consuming environmental impact review studies, is heading to California Governor Jerry Brown's desk for approval! This bill, which was introduced by Metro, will streamline the process for building more bike infrastructure.
Read more in the LA Times. Governor Brown Signs the LA River Access Bill into Law The bill, written by FoLAR, will broaden the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works' 100-year-old mission of flood and stormwater management to include, for the first time, education and recreation. This bill lays the foundation for a vibrant river environment that will serve all the denizens of the watershed and make Southern California a richer, more verdant place to be. |
