AB 1585 Headed to Assembly Committee HCD: Take Action Now!

Thank you! WIth your help we had over 230 Southern Californians participate in our last Take Actions for SB 654 and generated over 670 faxes! With your support the bill passed the Senate on a 34-1 bi-partisan vote. The California Assembly has now introduced it's version in AB 1585 and that bill is now headed to the Assembly Housing and Community Development committee. We need to make sure that it passes with full bi-partisan support by clicking here and sending your faxes.

The Southern California Association of NonProfit Housing (SCANPH) supports AB 1585 in the California Assembly as well as has supported SB 654 (Steinberg) which has passed the California Senate.

With the passage of last year's AB 26x, all of California's redevelopment agencies are scheduled to dissolve on February 1, 2012. Many agencies still have balances in their Low and Moderate Income Housing Funds (the twenty percent of redevelopment funds designated for affordable housing). SB 654 (Steinberg) and AB 1585 both specify that the balances in dissolving redevelopment agencies' housing funds shall be used for housing construction and other housing-related purposes. The bills clarify conflicting provisions of last year's AB 26x and has received unanimous bi-partisan support thus far.

SB 654 passed overwhelmingly (34-1) out of the California Senate with bipartisan support, but without the Urgency Clause. The Urgency Clause has been resubmitted in the California Assembly's version of the bill as AB 1585 and the measure has been adopted by seven co-sponsors including Speaker John Perez, and Assembly Members Henry Perea, Holly Mitchell, Jerry Hill, Norma Torres, Roger Dickinson, and Toni Atkins.

We need your support to make sure that both your local Assembly Member and the Governor hear from you and request their support for these important measures. Please send a fax immediately at this link and then give them a call from the phone numbers provided after sending your fax.
