L No: Why Proposition L is Bad for Biking

No on LThis November, a ballot measure will attempt to undo our work to make San Francisco a safer, more bikeable city. Proponents call Proposition L the “Restore Transportation Balance” measure, but it is, in fact, a staunchly anti-bike, anti-transit and anti-pedestrian safety measure that will further unbalance San Francisco’s transportation system.

Proposition L supporters are so blatant about their goals that when the San Francisco Bay Guardian asked Prop L proponent David Looman what he wanted to see in transportation policy, he aimed squarely at biking, saying, “Let’s go back 10 years, before the proliferation of bike lanes.”

If Prop L wins, people who bike (and walk, and take transit and drive) lose. Read the rest of our blog about why it’s especially bad for the growing number of us on two wheels.

Do You "Bike Polite" on the Embarcadero?

Did you know? Over 1,000 people ride bikes on the Embarcadero past the Ferry Building every evening! Whether you’re on the green bike lanes or cruising the multi-use Promenade, our waterfront is a beautiful place to experience by bike. We hit the streets last week as part of our Bike Polite program, a series of outreach events to encourage biking and to thank people for biking politely. Read more about our event on the Embarcadero last week where we passed out delicious chocolates from Alter Eco, a bike-friendly business in Dogpatch, and shared our Rules of the Road flyers.
