We're delighted to announce that our new exhibit features Beth Moon's latest photographic series, Diamond Nights. The exhibit is open now and will run through November 1. We'll host a reception on Thursday, October 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
The reception will not only celebrate Beth's new series of images, but also the release of her new book, Ancient Trees: Portraits of Time, published by Abbeville Press. Beth will be in the gallery on October 2 and will be happy to sign books. Beth will also be in the gallery for a booksigning event on Saturday, October 11, from 2 to 4 pm.
Beth's Diamond Nights series was inspired by two scientific studies that connect tree growth with celestial movement and astral cycles. Thus inspired, she traveled to remote areas of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa where she created portraits of baobob and quiver trees. Exposing her images for up to 30 seconds on moonless nights allowed her to capture the brilliance of stars which can only be seen clearly when far from civilization. The Milky Way is clearly evident in several images.
Those who have followed Beth's career will find this series a dramatic departure from the platinum prints for which she is so well known. These large-format images are her first venture into the world of color photography.
Beth is known for her numerous series of platinum prints such as Odin's Cove, Augurs and Soothsayers and Savage Garden which we've exhibited in the past. Her work has been the object of numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide, including solo shows at PH Neutro Fotographia Fine Art, Verona, Italy; Wave Gallery, Brecia, Italy; and Verve Gallery of Photography, Santa Fe. Beth's groups shows have included Les Roncontres d'Arles Photographie, Arles, France; Farmani Gallery, Los Angeles; and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. Her work has received critical acclaim in major fine art publications internationally including in LensWork; Black and White Photography, UK; Zoom International, Italy; and Black and White Magazine, US.
We hope you'll join us at one of our events to congratulate Beth not only for this wonderful series of new images, but also on the publication of her book.
