San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Biker Bulletin

September 23, 2014

Dear Kevin,
Your SF Bicycle Coalition membership is current through 12/14/2014. Thank you for being a member!

Here’s Looking at You: Member Survey Results are In!
Member SurveyThanks to the over 1,400 members who participated in our biennial member survey. We’ve been crunching the numbers and have posted some revealing highlights. For instance, 40% of our membership identifies as female, which is higher than the percentage of women commuting by bike in San Francisco (32%) and around the country (27%). See the breakdown of all the findings, including where our members live and what issues most members care about.

Want to find out the full scoop? RSVP to attend an all-member meeting on October 8 to hear the latest campaign updates, get a sneak-peek at projects to come and learn how you can get involved in the work you care most about. Not a member? Join today!

Check Out Our New ‘Rules of the Road’ Video!

Rules of the RoadThe SF Bicycle Coalition is proud to be the leading resource for street safety in San Francisco. From our free urban bicycle education classes to our expanding driver education (all taxi, Muni and some shuttle operators) to our youth and family programs, we’re spreading the street safety far and wide. This week, we’re launching our latest outreach tool: a Bicycle Rules of the Road video. Thanks to the SF Department of the Environment, who funded this project, Laura Lukitsch for filming and the over 25 amazing volunteers – you’ll likely recognize the actors from the bike lanes!

Final Community Meeting for the Marina on September 30

Mark your calendars! The final meeting to decide the long-term design of the biking and walking path at the Marina will be on September 30 at the Fort Mason Firehouse. Even though 98% of the people on the path are biking and walking, there still remains vehicle access and parking. We need your help to support parking relocation to a convenient location for visitors and boat owners so that the path can meet its goal of providing “a high quality bicycle, pedestrian and general visitor experience." Read more about it here.

Bike Market Street? Come to This Meeting!

MarketThe SFMTA is launching a program to improve street safety and Muni speed on Market Street. The program, called Safer Market Street, will focus on Market between 8th and Montgomery Streets, and will include more auto restrictions and diversions, as well as other bike, ped and transit improvements.

Come support a Safer Market Street for all at the first community meeting next Tuesday, September 30 from 6-7:30PM at the Bayanihan Community Center (1010 Mission Street). Check out our blog, and sign up for our Market Street campaign to receive updates and stay involved.

Are You Ready? Walk and Roll To School Day is October 8!
