Protected Bikeway Coming to the Embarcadero

Embarcadero PilotWhether it’s heading to a Giants game, visiting the Exploratorium or hanging out at the piers for unparalleled views of the Bay, the Embarcadero is a uniquely San Francisco experience. But as it attracts more visitors every year and our city grows, we need to think about how people move along our waterfront. The City is holding an open house this Thursday, July 24 to launch the Embarcadero Enhancement Project, a public planning exercise to develop a conceptual design for a bikeway from AT&T Park to Fisherman’s Wharf. Read more about it in our blog post here, and take a moment to fill out our survey. We encourage you to share this survey to your friends, family and neighbors to gather more feedback from everyone who loves our waterfront!

Expanding Our Youth and Family Work

The SF Bicycle Coalition welcomes Janelle-Tran Phung to the new position of Program Coordinator for Safe Routes To School. Janelle joins the SF Bicycle Coalition’s Nancy Buffum and the new Walk SF Program Coordinator Genaro Escargaza to expand the Safe Routes program, encouraging more families to walk, bike, take transit and carpool to and from school. SRTS sponsors Walk and Roll To School Day, Bike and Roll To School Week and ongoing programs throughout the year. Janelle brings public education and outreach experience from her recent position at SF Department of the Environment, and speaks five languages and is a great asset in our multicultural city. Welcome Janelle! Learn more about SF Safe Routes to School.

VIDEO: Dance Performance Celebrates Temporarily Car-Free Lombard Street

Lombard StreetThis weekend was the last of the car-free Lombard Street trials. The SFMTA implemented a trial of car-free Lombard in an effort to ease congestion around the area. The trials, as reported by Streetsblog, have helped create another great open streets opportunity for locals and tourists alike. To truly celebrate the open streets, Bay Area Flash Mob held a group dance down the windy street. Check out this great video! The SFMTA will now study the results of the car-free pilot and will consider making the car restrictions permanent.
