Transportation 2030: District 3 Meeting The City has been holding a series of community meetings to discuss how to bring in critical funding to improve San Francisco’s transportation networks. The final meetings will take place over the next week. One meeting to note is the District 3 open house on June 10 that will be hosted by Supervisor David Chiu.
We’ve received many letters from our members and North Beach residents and merchants in support of returning Columbus Avenue into a welcoming neighborhood street through complete streets improvements. However, the lack of funding has stalled these additional improvements, which include bike lanes, wider sidewalks and safer pedestrian crossings. Come to the District 3 meeting and ask Supervisor Chiu to help find additional funding and envision a Complete Streets future for Columbus Avenue. School’s Out – Time for Summer Family Biking! What better place to bike as a family than car-free Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway? Stop by the SF Bicycle Coalition station at this weekend's Sunday Streets and let your young ones experience Freedom from Training Wheels.
Questions or opinions about family biking equipment? Want to learn more about tag-alongs, front seats, back seats, long bikes with electric assists or trailers? You can show off your own bike or try one of ours. You can also join us to volunteer! Bike to Ice Cream Day at Bi-Rite Last week, Bi-Rite Creamery at Divisadero hosted Bike to Ice Cream Day, a fundraiser benefitting the SF Bicycle Coalition in honor of Bike Month. Guest scoopers from the SF Bicycle Coalition served up cups and cones of Bi-Rite’s mouth-watering ice cream to patrons who came out to support better biking. Huge thanks to our friends at Bi-Rite for their generous support of the SF Bicycle Coalition!
Video: Daylighting Streetfilms launched a series of quick videos that clearly explain livable streets design concepts. Here’s a short explanation of “daylighting” and why it’s an easy and affordable solution to making our streets safer.
Here at the SF Bicycle Coalition, we’re big fans of daylighting and love that the City used landscaping and design to daylight the unsafe corners on 6th Street and other spots. Take a look at our relevant work!
