Dear Kevin, Your SF Bicycle Coalition membership is current through 12/14/2014. Thank you for being a member! THIS WEEK: Bike to Worship Week is May 25-June 1 and dozens of faith communities are participating. See the details here.
It’s the Last Week of Bike Month!
It's the 5th and final week of Bike Month and we're finishing with over 15 events! From two great Bike-In movie nights, the Any Bike Book Club, Urban Farm Tour, the Bicycle Ballet and everything in-between!
Celebrate the wildly successful Bike Month with a delicious ice cream! The generous team at Bi-Rite Creamery on Divis is donating their community jar in May to support out work. Come to Bi-Rite Bike to Ice Cream Night Wednesday, May 28 when our staff and volunteers are guest-scooping!
Finish off the final Friday of Bike Month with a fun group ride! Choose from Supervisor Wiener and Castro neighbors, SF2G’s Friendly Frolic Ride down the Peninsula or the SF Cycling Club with a fast Coffee Ride followed by a commute from the Marina to Downtown.
See sfbike.org/events for full list!. Why Local Bike Startups Support Bicycle Advocacy
Bicycling is booming in San Francisco. From the increase in ridership (96% since 2006) to the influx of new bike shops (three new ones on Market Street alone) to the plethora of bike startups launching from our City by the Bay, one thing is clear: San Francisco loves biking.
We sat down to talk with one of these new bike startups, Revolights, about the tie-in between new bike companies and bicycle advocacy. Here’s what San Francisco native and Revolights’ Chief Marketing Officer, Drew Ocon, had to say about the combo. Many thanks to our dedicated members who joined us at the California Bike Coalition’s Bike Advocacy Day in Sacramento last Wednesday. SF Bicycle Coalition staff were joined by a hearty cohort of San Francisco riders to walk the halls of our State Assembly and meet with legislators for better biking. Together we lobbied our representatives for stronger bikeway design, better protections for people biking and walking and increased funding for biking and walking. Stay tuned for a full recap on the California Bike Coalition’s blog.
Video: Family Biking in Action
Over the past few months, we’ve been riding around and showing off our demo family bike, an Xtracycle Edgerunner that was generously donated by Xtracycle, New Wheel and BionX. We’ve hauled kids, bike valet gear, boxes and huge shopping trips--easily by bike. The bike’s been a huge success at Sunday Streets, family biking events and gotten a lot of attention in the bike lanes. And it’s helped welcome lots of new families to biking. We launched a contest to win the bike, and hundreds of families entered. We just announced the winner: Britt Gardner, who entered at Monroe Elementary School. Congrats, Britt! And congrats to all the families that are rolling together. Take a look at the bike in action! CHAIN OF EVENTS Check out our online calendar of events.
