NEWS & UPDATES

Bike Network SurveySan Francisco’s Next Bike Network

The results are in! Thank you to the roughly 500 people who filled out our survey on the SFMTA’s proposed list of next San Francisco bike projects. We have crunched the results of the survey, combined it with the ongoing feedback members and others sent us throughout the year through various channels, and used it to craft a response to the MTA’s proposed list. Check out our open letter to the MTA.

District 5 Member Committee Tonight!

Are you a brand new member of the SF Bicycle Coalition? Or maybe you’ve been around for years? New, old, or somewhere in between, come to our District 5 committee meeting tonight at The Grind (783 Haight St.) on Tuesday from 6:30-7:30PM to mingle with your fellow members and plug into our advocacy work for better biking. With more and more people utilizing the Panhandle, we’ll share our ideas for making the path better for biking and how we can link up to active projects to turn those ideas into action. Can't make it? E-mail janice@sfbike.org to stay involved or share your thoughts.

Be a Part of Saturday’s Bike Build

Bike BuildsWe’re still looking for a few more great folks to come help out with Saturday’s Bike Build in the Bayview, located at the Bayview YMCA. We have a variety of roles for mechanics and for those who are less-mechanically minded. Afternoon and morning shifts available. Sign up to come be a part of this great day!

Partnering with Stanford to Improve Park Access

Thank you to all our members who filled out our survey on access to Golden Gate Park! We’ve received over 100 responses that will help inform the final presentation on Wednesday, March 12 from 2-4PM at the SF Main Library’s Koret Auditorium. We’ve posted a blog to give more background on the process of the Stanford University students working on this project, which has included interviews, meetings with different organizations and even a brainstorming workshop with 8th grade students. To learn more about the class, visit the Sustainable Cities homepage. Hope to see you tomorrow!

Welcome to Our New Valet Bicycle Parking Coordinator!

Francisco New StaffWe’re so happy to welcome Francisco Grajales to the staff as our new Valet Bicycle Parking Coordinator! Prior to this role, Francisco has worked for us as a Valet Supervisor and has been an active member and dedicated volunteer for many years. Hailing from Texas, it was his college years in Boston that launched him as an urban biker, and he’s been riding the ridges, bike touring and randonneuring for at least nine years now. Francisco is the organizer of DasBike-In Movie Night, and on those rare occasions when he’s not biking, you can find him baking chocolate chips cookies or drinking a strong cup of black coffee. Say hi at francisco@sfbike.org!

VIDEO: Your SF Bicycle Coalition Valet Bicycle Parking (with Music by Bike)

Bike Valet VideoOur valet bicycle staff parks 15,000+ bikes at more than 100 events every year, ranging from SF Jazz Festival to Red Bull Flugtag. We’re excited that one of our valet supervisors, Helga Hizer, has highlighted our Valet Bicycle Parking program in this beautiful short video. In it, she shows what valet bike parking actually means for the diverse crowd and wide range of businesses that use it.

And if that’s not enticing enough, the music -- created and donated by the talented Johnnyrandom -- is composed exclusively of sounds from bicycles and their components. Thanks to Helga and Johnnyrandom for donating their time and quality work!

If you want to hire us to secure and attend to bikes at your event, contact bikevalets@sfbike.org or fill out our easy online form.
