Register here Join us for our February 2014 webinar as we present T.R.U.S.T. South LA, a Community Land Trust, and Abode Communities, all affordable housing developer and architects, who will present their experiences in working with Rolland Curtis Gardens tenants and surrounding community to preserve affordable housing and plan for equitable Transit Oriented Development adjacent to the Expo Line. In 2012, after a 15 month tenant-led campaign to prevent displacement of long-term residents, the partner organizations purchased Rolland Curtis Gardens, a 2.3 acre site in South Central Los Angeles, in a neighborhood with new light-rail infrastructure, local demand for university student housing, and intense real estate speculation. In 2013, they conducted a three-month-long participatory visioning process that resulted in the design of a 140-unit mixed-use development which integrates affordable housing, community-serving commercial, open space, and active transportation resources. In this webinar, the organizations will present the resulting Guide to Community-Driven Transit Oriented Development Planning, and share lessons learned about creating effective collaborations between organizers, architects, developers, and community residents. Online on Wednesday, February 19 at 12:00 PM Noon (PST). To register, please visit this link. Please join the webinar at www.scanph.org/webinar. |
