NEWS & UPDATES

Top Five San Francisco Bike Wins in 2013

Market StreetSan Francisco magazine proclaimed 2013 the “Year of the Bicycle,” and with good reason! Thanks to our tenacious members, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition won huge victories for better biking, opening up more safe bikeways, secure bike parking and lifting restrictions on regional travel by bike. Thanks to our members, we were also able to respond to unexpected and critical campaigns — like our work in response to the fatal crash on Folsom Street and holding the police accountable for fair and equal enforcement. Here are five key wins for better biking last year.

Crucial Enforcement Hearing on January 16

Fair and Equal EnforcementWe need your voices next week to speak up for Fair and Equal enforcement for people biking and walking. Thanks to your commitment in the past, the San Francisco Police Department has  made commitments to improve enforcement and safety, but we need to make sure we hold them to their promises.

Come and share your voice at the Joint Hearing of the Police Commission and Public Safety Committee on Thursday, January 16, 5-7PM at City Hall, Board Chambers Room 250. This special hearing only has one item on the agenda. This is a critical opportunity to have a hearing dedicated to this important issue. RSVP at sfbike.org/enforcement.

In addition to this important hearing, the SF Bicycle Coalition has formed an Enforcement Committee and will be holding our second meeting on Thursday, January 9, 5:30-6:30 PM to discuss how your SF Bicycle Coalition can advocate for fair and equal enforcement. RSVP at sfbike.org/enforcement.

New Year’s Resolution: Bike More as a Family!

Is there a bicycle beginner in the family? Does someone have a new bike? Perhaps you have simply resolved: we’ll bike more as a family in 2014!

Make a commitment to build a healthy habit into your family routine. Turn trips you take now into bike trips — to school, work or nearby errands. Enjoy quality family time with bike outings and biking play dates. Join the SF Bicycle Coalition! You’ll help us promote the bicycle as everyday transportation and bicycle education for all ages. Volunteer to be a biking champion for your child’s school, or advocate for better infrastructure on routes where your family wants to bike.
