November 12, 2013

Dear Kevin,
Your SF Bicycle Coalition membership is current through 12/14/2014. Thank you for being a member!

Want to learn the basics of urban biking? We’re teaching a free one-hour class at Mission Cliffs on November 13. Sign up or suggest it to a friend.

Honoring Cheng Jin Lai and Calls for Safe SoMa Streets

Cheng Jin LaiLast month, 78-year-old Cheng Jin Lai was tragically hit and killed while biking at the poorly designed and dangerous intersection of 11th and Division Streets. Lai was the fourth person this year killed while biking, the most in a single year in more than a decade. In each of these tragic crashes, the victim was hit by the operator of a large vehicle, in and around SoMa’s dangerous and fast-moving streets.

This Thursday, November 14, there will be a memorial and safe streets action in Mr. Lai’s honor. The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition will join Mr. Lai’s family and friends, City leaders like Supervisor Kim and fellow safe streets advocates for the event.

Pedal by the event to honor one of the members of our diverse community, and to show your support for SoMa improvements for everyone. Can’t make it to the event, here are other ways you can help.

Bayview Bike Build This Saturday

A bike can be the key to getting to school, work or just exploring San Francisco, but sometimes getting access to a good bike can be a challenge, particularly if you have limited resources. For the past year, we have been working with community organizations to organize Bike Builds and overcome this barrier. Each Bike Build is an opportunity for the community to come together and refurbish donated bicycles for their fellow San Franciscans. Our next Bayview Bike Build is this Saturday, November 16, co-organized with POWER at BCA/Rafiki Wellness. We are still looking for volunteers and donations of tools and u-locks. Sign up here to volunteer and email chema@sfbike.org if you have a material donation to make.
