Dear Kevin, THIS WEEK:
Missed our latest news on the Folsom crash, SFPD handling and the importance of the video footage we found? Read about it here. NEWS & UPDATES Bike Share Launched…Now Let’s Expand It!
While we are thrilled to see BABS finally launch, we have also continued to send your messages to the Mayor that the system is just too small right now. Now is the time to really speak up, so that the needed expansion can happen as soon as possible. SEND A LETTER TO MAYOR LEE, asking him to expand bike share! And after you’ve done that, please ask your coworkers and friends to add their names. City Hall won’t move on expansion until it hears from the huge numbers of people in this city who are impatient to see it in their neighborhood. Mayor Commits to Safety Improvements on Folsom Street
Last week, on our bike ride with Mayor Lee, he committed to making near-term safety improvements to Folsom Street, as well as continuing to push forward with the longer-term project. The Mayor spoke about potential pilots to Folsom that would improve the safety of people biking and walking. While we are encouraged to hear the Mayor’s commitment to making pilot improvements to this deadly street, City decision-makers have been quiet about the specifics, including when these improvements will happen, and what they will entail. Please help ensure that the Mayor’s commitment translates to meaningful safety improvements on the ground -- immediately: Sign up to speak at an upcoming SFMTA Board meeting (Tuesdays at 1 PM) or the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee (Thursday at noon). Email chema@sfbike.org. Thank you again to all of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition members who came together and advocated and won these crucial Folsom Street safety improvements. Safety improvement successes like this are made possible by our strong, active and engaged membership. If you are not a member of the SF Bicycle Coalition, we invite you to become one today. Bike the Vote: Weigh in on Candidate Endorsements

A Calmer Scott Street for EveryoneLast week the SFMTA and the SF Public Utilities Commission held a special community meeting with local residents to discuss ways of making Scott Street calmer and safer for people walking and biking from Fell Street to Haight Street. One of the goals of the proposed improvements is to reduce motorized traffic circulation on this calm residential street. Residents at the meeting also expressed concern about pollution caused by traffic on Fell and Oak Streets as well as concern of folks biking quickly through the neighborhood without yielding to pedestrians. We will be working over the next few weeks to improve the perception of people biking on Scott Street and the Wiggle. The next Wiggle Neighborhood Greenway meeting is tentatively scheduled for the last week of September. Visit sfbike.org/wiggle for more information.
