| Dear Kevin, With so many new bike improvements in San Francisco, it probably seems like opposition to bicycle projects has all but disappeared. But that could not be further from the truth. As our safety projects get bigger, organized opposition gets louder—most notably on two of our deadliest streets: Masonic Avenue and Polk Street. We need your help to overcome this vocal opposition. At a recent Masonic Avenue project hearing, an opponent of bikeways actually said that losing parking would be “a catastrophe,” and that seven deaths on Masonic “doesn’t sound like a lot.” WHAT?! Seven deaths on a single street doesn’t sound like a lot? We disagree! In just the last five years, 122 people have been injured and two killed on a 2/3 mile stretch of Masonic. That's unacceptable, and the SF Bicycle Coalition is working harder than ever to get you these crucial safety improvements. Despite project approval, some people are still working to stop the Masonic improvements from getting on the ground. A donation today of $25, $50, $150 or $500 will help ensure that the SF Bicycle Coalition has the resources to win the separated bikeways you deserve on Masonic, Polk and other key bike routes. We overcame opposition on Fell and Oak streets, and today you and thousands of others can bike safely on this critical connection from the Wiggle to Golden Gate Park. Let's make sure you have a safer ride on Masonic Avenue and Polk Street too. Your special gift today will support our effective advocacy on simultaneous tough campaigns on Polk, Masonic, Market and 2nd Street. I’m asking you to dig into your pockets and help us during this unprecedented time of multiple big campaigns. With your help, we’ll win support for separated bikeways on Polk Street, Masonic Avenue and beyond.
We need your help now more than ever!
