Thanks to the hundreds of SF Bicycle Coalition members, merchants and area residents for coming out to one of the SFMTA’s Polk Street Open House this past Saturday. If you missed Saturday’s Open House, you can still weigh in on safety and streetscape improvements for Polk Street at Tonight’s Open House from 5-8:30pm at 1300 Polk Street (at Bush). Dedicated bikeways are NOT included in every proposal, despite the fact that bikeways make streets safer for everyone. If you want a safe and thriving Polk Street, come to tonight’s Open House and speak up for separated bikeways and pedestrian improvements. Stop by between 5-8:30pm at 1300 Polk Street (at Bush) - free bicycle valet is provided! See sfbike.org/polk for more information. Please RSVP Here Golden Wheel Awards with NYC Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn! We've all heard about New York's incredible work over the last few years adding bikeways, launching a large-scale bike sharing system and debuting miles of other livable streets improvements -- plazas, parklets and more. What is New York City's secret to success? Meet her in person on June 20 at our 2013 Golden Wheel Awards! Janette Sadik-Kahn, the NYC Commissioner of Transportation, will speak about New York's story, and particularly about the work that her Department of Transportation has done to open up miles of streets to safe and welcoming biking. Commissioner Sadik-Khan is about as close as a transportation professional gets to a rock star. Golden Wheel is your chance to meet her and ask her in person about what it takes to transform a city. 21st Annual Golden Wheel Awards Cities for Change: Pedaling for a Better Tomorrow Thursday, June, 20, 6:30-9PM Hotel Whitcomb, 1231 Market St (new location) Limited Pre-Sale Tickets Special discounted tickets to this event will be offered for a limited time. Day 200 of Fell and Oak Construction Delays Thanks to the direct appeals of our members and Supervisor London Breed over the past few weeks, the Fell Street Bikeway has seen substantial safety improvements in physical separation, and work is expected to begin on the westernmost block between Baker and Broderick this week. Parking removal up to Divisadero is also planned. Nonetheless, the final completion of the Oak Street Bikeway is now under threat of being delayed until June, because private construction on the corner of Oak and Divisadero was granted a work extension last week. Visit sfbike.org/fell to find out exactly how long the project has been under construction and see how you can help.
