Ethnic Change and Enclaves in Los Angeles

Approximately 10 million people live in Los Angeles County, making it the largest in the U.S. It also has the region's greatest ethnic diversity living throughout various ethnic enclaves. In this article, James Allen and Eugene Turner, professors at California State University, Northridge, look at trends in the county up to 2010. They also focus on eight ethnic enclaves to provide readers with a brief introduction and taste of L.A.'s ethnic diversity and patterns

Special Sessions Underscore Milestones in Geography Education at AAG Annual Meeting


The AAG Annual Meeting will feature four sessions on the association's contributions to K-12 geography education. The sessions will focus on AAG materials and resources related to geography education; policy initiatives and the AAG Resolution Supporting K-12 Geography Education; national geography standards; and the Roadmap for 21st Century Geography Education Project. The first session will be on Wednesday, April 10. The remaining sessions will take place on Friday, April 12. Read more.
Update Your Hotel Reservations; Others May Be Waiting for a Room

Demand for rooms at the AAG hotels is high. Please release any unwanted reservations so other attendees on the waiting list can secure a room. Let your hotel know you're with the AAG and want your unused nights given to another AAG attendee.

Learning Out and About in L.A.
 
Take the AAG experience and learning out to the field. Explore L.A. and Southern California with a walking tour, such as "People's Guide to Downtown L.A." Or, see the map collection at the L.A. Public Library and take in the view from atop Mt. Hollywood.

The weeklong conference is expected to host more than 8,000 geographers from around the world and feature over 4,000 presentations, posters, workshops, and field trips by leading scholars and researchers.

 

The AAG Annual Meeting is an interdisciplinary forum open to anyone with an interest in geography and related disciplines. All scholars, researchers, and students are welcome to attend.
