We're proud to be partnering with community groups for new bike-build Convivios, which refurbish and gives bikes to those who need them. Learn all about it Help Get the Market Street Project Back on Track! After years of advocacy for a comfortable and protected bikeway, fewer private vehicles and smooth pavement on Market Street, the SF Bicycle Coalition is concerned about the City's continually delayed timeline and and commitment to improving your safety when biking on the city's premier corridor. We've received hundreds of support letters from members like you, Downtown employers and Market Street retail shops over the years, calling for a continuous, green separated bikeway on Market Street from Octavia Boulevard to the Embarcadero. Why hasn't the city capitalized on the unprecedented support for improving biking, transit, and walking on Market Street and make your trips safer - now? In the next few weeks, we've got a number of ways for you to share your thoughts with us, City leaders and the Better Market Street project team. - Send in a support letter for smooth pavement, improved signal timing, and a protected bikeway on Market Street. Click here to get started.
- Speak up at the upcoming Board of Supervisors hearing on Monday, March 11 at 1:30pm.
- Join our Market/Mission survey bike ride. The City has introduced an idea of adding a separated bikeway on Mission Street, and making "minimal" bike improvements to Market Street. We are interested in getting more details about the Mission Street option but are concerned that biking on Market Street, the city's grand boulevard, might remain a chaotic experience for decades to come. Join our ride on March 4 to take a look firsthand at what both of these options could mean.
Visit sfbike.org/MARKET for more information on all these ways to get involved. 150 Volunteers Needed to Make BART Bike Pilot a Success--Will You Be One of Them? From Monday March 18th to Friday, March 22nd, the SF Bicycle Coalition will be spearheading the second pilot to remove the bike blackout period on BART trains. During that week, bikes will be allowed on BART at all times of day--including the usually restricted commute hours. In order for this pilot to be successful, we need more than just courteous bike riders -- we need YOU -- to hand out flyers, remind people to be courteous and take a survey.! Morning and evening shifts available at all San Francisco BART Stations. Please sign up online to help make this vital pilot a success.
Additional Delays Announced on Fell and Oak Bikeway Construction The SFMTA recently announced additional delays in the construction of the Oak Street bikeway to accommodate private construction. In the meantime, people biking on Fell Street still contend daily with a half-completed bikeway that, while certainly improved, desperately requires some sort of physical separation from fast-moving automobile traffic. With Spring less than four weeks away, we are asking our members to tell City leaders why adding physical separation to the bikeway is so important. Your voice will help put this project back on track. First Sunday Streets of the Season is March 10 The 2013 season kicks off on the Embarcadero on Sunday, March 10th! Portable Bike Corral Competition Are you, or is someone you know, a student interested in designing the future of bike parking? We've got a competition for you! The SF Bicycle Coalition is partnering with the Yerba Buena Community Benefits District (YBCBD), SPUR, and SFMTA to create a portable bike corral to use for temporary events. While the city continues to install bike corrals in front of businesses across the city, sometimes there is a need for similar bike parking for temporary events like Farmer's Markets, daytime forums, or nighttime events. The winning The winning student team will receive a cash prize and the opportunity to work with a professional firm to fabricate a prototype for use within the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District.
