Connecting Your City: First Survey Ride of the Year

What do you want to see improved for biking in your neighborhood in 2013? Ride with us and share your thoughts to help us develop and refine the list of priorities we will be sharing with City decisionmakers. The SF Bicycle Coalition invites you to join us for our Love Your Lanes survey bike ride series, which we'll be doing in every District over the coming months. First survey ride of the year:

"Love Your Lanes: Glen Park/Noe Valley" - Saturday, January 26, 11 am.
Meet: Glen Park BART station

Visit sfbike.org/connectingthecity for upcoming rides and many more ways to give your input on how to make biking better in your neighborhood.

Key Vote on Masonic Avenue This Year

Last year the SFMTA Board approved a neighborhood-driven plan to transform deadly Masonic Avenue into a welcoming neighborhood boulevard. This historic vote was preceded by years of intense neighborhood organizing and support on behalf of a bold vision. But the plan is only a piece of paper until funding is approved for construction. In just a few months, the SF County Transportation Authority Commission will vote on whether to allocate the funds this project needs to finally get built. These funds are by no means guaranteed, and Masonic may continue to claim lives. If you want to see Masonic finally tamed, please send a letter of support to your supervisor at sfbike.org/masonic.

Meet Your One True Bike Love: Be a Love on Wheels Contestant

Don't miss your chance to start 2013 off with love! Spots are still available to be a contestant in the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's famous bike-y dating game!

Love on Wheels: Wednesday, February 6th at Public Works, 6-9pm

We've got a category for you! Boy-Boy, Boy-Girl, Girl-Boy and Girl-Girl! Sign up at sfbike.org/love (you must be a member).

Too shy for the stage? Sign up for a fun volunteer spot.

Bike to School Week Poster Contest!

Bike to School Day is now ... Bike to School Week! Mark your calendar for April 22nd through 26th, 2013. To get things rolling we are launching our annual poster contest with the theme "We Like to Bike." The event and poster contest is open to all public and private pre-K through 12th grade students. Does your child like to draw? Let them loose with a crayon. The grand prize winner gets a bike! The contest runs until Friday, February 8th. sfbiketoschool.org.

Climate Ride Spots Open and Going Fast!

Did you know that participants in the 2012 California Climate Ride raised an incredible $16,000 for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition while enjoying the ride of their life? This year the 320-mile ride from Fortuna to San Francisco is scheduled for May 19 to 23, and it's time to snag a coveted spot for this incredible experience. Check out photos from last year's tour and sign up for the ride at climateride.org. When you designate the SF Bicycle Coalition as one of your beneficiaries, we'll connect you with other riders in Bay Area and help you prepare for this unique, life changing experience!

Video: Making the Market and Octavia freeway crossing safer -- finally.

As we reported in last week's Biker Bulletin, California's Attorney General has given permission for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to install a camera at the intersection of Market and Octavia (the most dangerous in the city) to prevent drivers from making illegal right turns onto the highway. Your SF Bicycle Coalition has been working on this campaign to improve Market and Octavia for years; we are calling on the City to move quickly to install the camera. This KTVU clip explains this crucial safety improvement.
