Take the City's Survey on Potential Polk Street Improvements

You can make biking and walking on Polk Street safer and more enjoyable by taking the city's survey on proposed improvements to this vibrant and exciting corridor. From now until December 28 the city is looking for your input on a series of design improvements for Polk Street from McAllister to Union Street.

Your input into the designs is critical right now. When the street is repaved in 2015 (a victory we're proud of working so hard to achieve) it could go back the same way it is today: discontinuous and narrow bikeway, poor pedestrian crossings and an overall unfriendly street to be on. Visit sfbike.org/POLK to see what the future of transportation on Polk Street could look like and speak up!

Help Us Raise $75,000 for Better, Safer Streets by Year-End

With only two weeks left in the year we're taking the time to review what we've accomplished with your help in 2012. It has been a tremendous year for change on our streets. Whether it was smoother patch pavement on Market Street to separated bikeways on Fell Street (and Oak Street soon to come), our members helped make 2012 a great year. Let's make 2013 even better!

Make a year-end donation to San Francisco Bicycle Coalition today, and you'll help build better, safer streets in San Francisco tomorrow. If you donate $100 before December 31st, we'll send you a spiffy new SF Bicycle Coalition t-shirt as a special thanks! All year-end gifts are tax-deductible too!

Safety Education Program Hits New Record in 2012

Just yesterday, SF Bicycle Coalition staff wrapped up its 75th safety workshop and we're proud to be the leading resource for street safety in San Francisco. As we all head off for our holiday break, we wanted to share with you some of our successes making your commute safer.

  • Our free Bike Safety Workshops taught over 1,000 adults how to bike safely and easily all across the city.
  • Starting in 2012, every new Taxi Driver is required to attend our training on safely sharing the road with bicycle riders. We taught over 1,000 new drivers and will continue to this program next year.
  • In partnership with the SF Department of Environment, our instructors educated over 60 City
employees -- from Animal Control Officers to MUNI repairmen to Wastewater Treatment workers -- how to use a bike for work trips, instead of a city vehicle.
  • We've just completed a new bike safety training video for MUNI Operators, which will be seen by all new operators and every operator when they attend a re-training, starting in 2013.
Our education program continues to grow, and we're looking forward to seeing you in one of our classes in 2013! Learn more about our ongoing street safety or sign up for a class at sfbike.org/edu
