The San Fernando Valley, often equated with white, mainstream conformity, is much more diverse. According to Eric Carter, an assistant professor of geography at Macalester College, "What was once an archetype for suburban 'white flight' ... is today a truly multicultural and polyglot community." He adds, "People from all over the world have found the promise of opportunity in this unpretentious landscape of stucco, cinder blocks, and palm trees." Read more.

Conference Assistants Needed for AAG Annual Meeting

  

Get involved by donating some of your time during the AAG Annual Meeting as a volunteer. Student members and AAG members who are unemployed/underemployed are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity to help offset their meeting registration costs. All applicants must be registered and paid for the meeting, to be chosen as a conference volunteer. Conference volunteers will receive $14.50 per hour in return for their time.  The AAG Conference Volunteer Application form is available online at  www.hhregistration.com/volunteer.   • April 9-13 - AAG Annual Meeting
About the AAG Annual Meeting

 

The weeklong conference is expected to host more than 8,000 geographers from around the world and feature over 4,000 presentations, posters, workshops, and field trips by leading scholars and researchers.

 

The AAG Annual Meeting is an interdisciplinary forum open to anyone with an interest in geography and related disciplines. All scholars, researchers, and students are welcome to attend.
