Kick-Off Meetings for Neighborhood Bike Ambassador Program Being Scheduled
If you want to make your City of Los Angeles neighborhood a better place to ride, join our Neighborhood Bike Ambassador program! The Neighborhood Bike Ambassador program is a new way for LACBC members & volunteers to work on neighborhood-scale projects and organize local support for bike projects and LACBC campaigns in the City of Los Angeles. We are currently scheduling meetings for 5 different regions in the City of Los Angeles: Eastside/Northeast LA, Central LA, South LA, the Westside, and the Valley. Bike Infrastructure and Policy Updates from Around the County Highland Park: As previously noted, the York Blvd. bike lane will be extended. The bike lane currently stretches to 55 Ave., but will soon extend an additional 0.89 miles to Figueroa. The project should be completed by the end of the month. More info at Highland Park Patch. Long Beach: Livingston Drive between 2nd and Termino Ave. will be repaved with Sharrows. Wider sidewalks are also in the works. More info at LA Streetsblog. Carson: The City of Carson has been awarded the 2012 Caltrans Community-Based Transportation Planning (CBTP) Grant to create the city's first Master Plan of Bikeways since 1978! The first community "ideas and suggestions" meeting for the Master Plan of Bikeways will be on Saturday, September 8 from 11 AM - 12:30 PM at the Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center, Multi-Purpose Room #111. Also, complete a short online survey to share your thoughts on bicycling in Carson. More info. |
Listen to Walk Bike Glendale on Bike Talk this Saturday LACBC local chapter Walk Bike Glendale will be featured on Kill Radio's Bike Talk this Saturday. WBG's own Rye Baerg will be giving you an update on what's happening in the Jewel city on the walking and biking front. Tune in this Saturday, August 11, from 10 AM to 12 PM.Bike Talk airs on Kill Radio on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Bike Talk celebrates bike rides, bicycle collectives,activists, artists, commuters, enthusiasts, professional cyclists, inventors and repairers and, of course, the bicycle itself as an alternative human-powered mode of transportation.

Over the past year we've been developing our Marshal Team, starting with Tour de Taste and the LA River Ride. We want it to grow into a force to be reckoned with, made up of strong riders with marshaling, bike mechanic, and first-aid skills. We will be hosting training rides, providing bike maintenance classes, first aid courses, and outfitting you with an official team jersey and all the bike tools you'll need along the way.
Please join us for one of our orientation rides on either August 11th, August 12th, September 8th, or September 9th at 11 AM.
On August 12th we will be previewing the route for the upcoming Tour de Fat. On September 8th we will joining an East LA community ride. We will decide on other locations based on your convenience. Please RSVP to martin@la-bike.org. |
LACBC has partnered with Grand Performances for a sweet series of bike valets this summer! Every Friday and Saturday night from now until the end of August, Grand Performances will be hosting FREE concerts, film screenings, dance performances, etc. at the outdoor California Plaza in Downtown LA, and we'll be providing the bike valet!
To find our bike valet, enter California Plaza off of Grand Ave., walk up the steps south of Blue Cow, and find us in front of the Deloitte Building.

We've been buzzing about what a great event Wolfpack Hustle's Midnight Drag Race through the 2nd Street Tunnel was a few weeks ago, and if you don't understand why, watch this video for KPCC. The video is full of energetic people coming from all over to ride and cheer on the riders through an urban tunnel that echos all sound at night.
If you've been following the London Olympics, you are probably excited to be able to watch four different cycling sports: road, track, mountain bike, and BMX. Those are a lot of bike wheels competing in London, but one bike sport you won't find at the London Games is bike polo. This week, the Madeleine Brand Show profiles this sport armed with a do-it-yourself attitude that includes making your own mallets and utilizing tennis courts. |

Bike-In Movie Screening of "To Live and Ride in LA" When: Saturday, August 25; 6 PM to 10 PM Where: Palomares Park (northwest corner of the park, just south of the tennis courts) - Pomona Ride your bikes to an outdoor movie screening hosted by local chapter Pomona Valley Bicycle Coalition. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, 90802 This half-day event will be hosted by the League of American Bicyclists and APBP, in partnership with Women on Bikes SoCal and Pro Walk/Pro Bike. It will feature targeted break-out sessions and a keynote address.
