  • SB 1220 Gets the Majority Vote But Falls Two Senate Votes Shy of Passage
  • (Updated May 31, 2012) SB 1220, the HOMeS Act received the majority vote but fell two votes shy of the 2/3rds vote for passage in the state Senate this afternoon on a 25-13 party-line vote.

    SCANPH had worked tirelessly on the bill and while this year's vote was disappointing, there is growing bipartisan support and momentum for some form of a dedicated source of funding for affordable homes. With Proposition 46 and 1C housing funds being exhausted and the loss of redevelopment funds that had provided for affordable homes, legislators feel that there is a strong need for state action to address these concerns. SB 1220 enjoyed broad support including affordable housing organizations, labor unions, and business. The California Building Industries Association, the California Realtors Association, the California Labor Federation and the California Apartment Association all supported SB 1220...
