MOVE IT FORWARD! SB 1220 Clears Key Senate Committees. Your Urgent Help Needed Now to Keep It Moving!
SB 1220, the HOMes Act will support the development, acquisition, rehabilitation, and preservation of affordable homes for Californians on fixed incomes and modest budgets, including emergency shelters, transitional and permanent rental housing, foreclosure mitigation, and homeownership opportunities. Funded through a $75 document recording fee, the bill would generate an average of $525 million per year.
This week, over a hundred housing advocates across California converged on the State Capitol to make it happen. SB 1220 cleared both the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee by a 6-2 vote and the Senate Governance and Finance Committee by a 5-2 vote. It is now scheduled for the Senate Appropriations Committee, and if cleared there by May 25, could be voted on the Senate floor.
We are now at a critical juncture in creating a dedicated source of funding for affordable homes in California. Take just a moment to send faxes to your state legislators, Governor Jerry Brown, and members of the Senate Appropriations Committee in one easy step.
