DROP BY! YOU DON'T NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO MOVE IT FORWARD!
SB 1220, The HOMes Act will support the development, acquisition, rehabilitation, and preservation of affordable homes for Californians on fixed incomes and modest budgets, including emergency shelters, transitional and permanent rental housing, foreclosure mitigation, and homeownership opportunities. Funded through a $75 document recording fee on real-estate transactions, the bill would generate an average of $700 million per year for housing affordable to hardworking families, put construction workers back on the job, and boost California's economy by creating millions of dollars in new economic activity.
SB 1220 faces 3 crucial hurdles in April. You can help move the bill forward by doing 3 simple, but effective things: 1) Register for a drop-by at the district office of one of the State Senators who are on the committees that are hearing the bill; 2) Send a letter "Supporting" SB 1220 on your organization's letter head to the bills' author Sen Mark DeSaulnier, then get the organizations you work with to do the same; and, 3) get post cards signed for SB 1220 (available from SCANPH email rdhondrup@scanph.org). Please act now. We only have 3 weeks!
No appointment is needed! The main opponents of SB 1220, the California Association of Realtors, are putting the heat on the Senators by having people drop by the senators' district and Sacramento offices EVERY DAY to oppose the bill. We need to show similar support for the bill. If someone from every organization with a connection to one of the target Senator's districts would drop by the district office at some point between now and the end of next week, that would be a HUGE STEP forward for our campaign. In fact, if you go this week, the Senator might actually be there. Make plans to drop by a targeted Senators' office! Move It Forward and volunteer yourself or your organization to do a DROP BY here!
