We're pleased to invite you to Ojos Que Ven/Ojos Que No Ven (Eyes that See/Eyes that Do Not See), an exhibit of images made by photographer Luis Delgado-Qualtrough in Mexico from 1975 to 1981. The exhibit, which coincides with Luis's release of a new, limited-edition portfolio of this series, will run from April 5 to May 5 in The Alcove. There will be a reception, which is open to the public, on Thursday, April 5 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. In addition, Luis will give an artist talk at the gallery on Saturday, April 14, at 2 pm. Corden|Potts Gallery is located at 49 Geary Street, Suite 410, in San Francisco. The gallery is open 11 am to 5:30 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, and until 7:30 pm on the first Thursday of each month. Two of the images from Ojos Que Ven/Ojos Que No Ven appear in Hecho en Latino America, a seminal publication that resulted from the First Colloquium of Latin American Photography held in Mexico City in 1978. "This event and publication reflected an era Latin America and the rest of the world were going through," Luis explains, "Social upheavals, progressive actions and military repression. "At that time my photography took an approach of static documentation with an unstaged viewpoint letting the subject and the times speak for themselves," he continues. "Three decades later, these images have acquired a more complex message; they continue to portray a part of the ongoing saga of humankind, but now also portray times past, people met, each with their own known and unknown story." Luis's portfolio consists of twenty 13"x19" archival pigment prints in a custom folio box with an accompanying catalogue. Roy Flukinger, senior curator of photography and film at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, Austin, has contributed an introduction to the catalogue. Luis Delgado Qualtrough's photographic work has evolved from social documentary to narratives that integrate sequential still images to create idea driven content. His prints and artist books have been widely exhibited around the world. Luis's work is held by many museums, universities and private collectors including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Houston Museum of Fine Arts; The Green Library at Stanford University; Bibliotheque National, Paris; Acervo José F. Gómez del Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Oaxaca, Mexico; Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City, Mexico; Consejo Mexicano de Fotografia, Mexico City, Mexico.
