Essential Annual Meeting Information

Thank you for registering for the AAG Annual Meeting. We're glad that you will be joining us for our meeting and look forward to seeing you next week in New York where you'll enjoy several days of outstanding sessions and great networking opportunities with colleagues and friends. Please take a moment to review the information below to prepare for the meeting.

If any of your colleagues are still interested in joining us, please let them know they can register on site.

On-site Registration Opens
at 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012

 

Meeting Venues
Sessions, workshops and special events will take place in either the Hilton New York (1335 Avenue of the Americas) or the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers (811 Seventh Ave.).

There are two additional meeting rooms in the Schwarzman Building of the New York Public Library (Fifth Ave. & 42nd St.). To access those session rooms, depart near the Hilton Main Lobby. Take a right on Sixth Ave. (a.k.a Avenue of the Americas). Continue to 42nd Street. Take a left on 42nd Street and proceed one block. Arrive at the Schwarsman Building at Fifth Ave. and 42nd Street.

Registration
The AAG Registration Desk will be located in Hilton New York, Second Floor Lobby. Registration will be open during the following hours:
  • Thursday, February 23, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, February 24, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 25, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 26, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Monday, February 27, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 28, 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Presentation Equipment
AAG will provide projectors with VGA connections for paper and panel sessions. Presenters should plan to use their own computers and special adapters for audio/visual presentations.

Internet Access
Wi-fi Internet access is available in the lobby of the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers.

Weather
The extended weather outlook for New York on most days of the Annual Meeting is expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures higher than the monthly average. A mix of precipitation is expected on Monday evening and Tuesday. Please check your favorite weather site for updates to help you pack accordingly.

What to Wear
Attire at the AAG Annual Meeting is business casual. Feel free to dress comfortably in slacks, polo shirts, sweaters, blazers, blouses, and most importantly, comfortable shoes. Suits, ties, nine-to-five dresses and heels are optional.

Currency Exchange
Most banks, hotels and shopping centers will have cash machines (ATMs) and most major retailers accept Travelers Checks and credit cards. Currency exchange is available at banks and kiosks throughout the city and at the airport. Try a currency converter.
Guide for Newcomers & Tips on What to Attend

With more than 6,000 papers and presentations, it can be difficult to decide what to attend. Take a moment before the meeting to review the program online or download a PDF copy at www.aag.org/annualmeeting/program. A printed program will be included in your tote bag when you check-in at the meeting.
 The AAG has collaborated with the Graduate Student Affinity Group to create a guide for newcomers to the AAG Annual Meeting. The guide addresses some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from first-time attendees. Download the Newcomers' Guide.

Exhibit Hall
The AAG Annual Meeting Exhibit Hall is located in the Rhinelander Gallery on the Second Floor and Americas Hall I on the Third Floor of the Hilton New York. The Exhibit Hall will be open on the following dates and times:
  • Saturday, February 25, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, February 26, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Monday, February 27, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Field Trips
All field trips will depart from the rear exit of the Hilton New York Hotel. The exit is located behind the parking garage of the hotel. Attendees are welcome to join field trips if there is space available or if there are no-shows or cancellations. Please arrive at the designated departure time and contact the field trip coordinator.

Special Events
There will be numerous special events, sessions, and workshops throughout the week. Please refer to your program or pick up a copy of the daily AAGeogram for information on highlighted events and activities. Here are just a few items to consider:
